Wrap railing in string lights
Clear any clutter — deck should feel open and welcoming
Arrange deck furniture for conversation (facing inward)
Add small side tables for drinks

Placement Notes

Wipe down the ledges first — people lean on railings instinctively at parties. Dirty ledges = dirty clothes = unhappy guests.

String lights wrapped around the railing make the deck feel intentional and festive once the sun goes down. Run them the full length of the railing.

This is a natural overflow spot from the patio below — people drift up here for a quieter conversation with a view of the yard. Keep it easy to move around in.
